The Brief

The works involved the Refurbishment and Alterations to Platforms 1 – 6 to East Croydon Station, Croydon in Surrey for BAM Nuttall Limited.

The Approach

The station consists of 3no island platforms 1 & 2, 3 & 4, and 5 & 6. The main station building and concourse are located at street level with ramps leading down to each platform. The main station electrical distribution intake is located in the “Redstar” car park. Each island platform contains Staff offices, public waiting rooms, public toilets, and retail units. All platforms have a large canopy area with columns located at the London end of the platforms.

The Challenges

Most of the canopy works could only be undertaken outside of normal station operating times and the access and working areas was particularly difficult due to the number of existing services that had to be negotiated whilst installing new supplies and services.

The Delivery

The works involved Survey of existing services. Removal of "ALL" redundant services. Installation of New switchgear and existing switchgear rationalisation/relocation. Installation of New lighting, emergency lighting and external lighting. Installation of Small power. CCTV (Power and Containment) CIS/PA/Help points (Power & Containment) Data/telecoms (Power and Containment). Alterations and adaptions to Fire Alarm system Alterations and adaptions to Intruder alarm system. Installation of new Containment and alterations to existing. Earthing and Bonding. Testing & Commissioning.

The Outcome

The scheme has significantly improved the facilities and feel of the station for both the travelling public and for those that work upon the station.
